Summer Tour Review

October 29, 2009

This summer I attended the MTVu Sunblock Music Festival in Baltimore, Maryland. The concert was on July 27th at the Pier Six Concert Pavilion. Headliners, The Boys Like Girls and Gym Class Heroes, were accompanied by The Academy Is, The Veronicas, and Never Shout Never. The concert was a collection of upbeat punk rock music throughout at various sets played that night. Starting out the show was Never Shout Never followed by The Veronicas and The Academy Is. After a lot of waiting, the headliners played a great enthusiastic show getting the crowd pumped. During the performances, the concert was being videotaped by the MTVu crew and is now available on their website. Also, the MC of the show had the audience participate in various contests such as a chance to win a free HP laptop sponsored by Doritios and a dance contest.
Boys Like Girls, one of the main performers at the concert is a band from Boston, MA featuring Martin Johnson, lead guitarist and singer, Bryan Donahue, bass guitarist, John Keefe, drummer, and Paul Digiovanni, guitarist. They started out as a small garage band living off Mac n’ Cheese doing what they love to do, play music. They had a few demos recorded and posted online to websites like Myspace and Purevolume to see how the public would react. There was a huge response from teens that heard the demos. Boys Like Girls has a great, lively and youthful sound. Their first record, Boys Like Girls, was a huge hit and feature songs such as The Great Escape, Thunder, and Five Minutes to Midnight that became top sellers on iTunes and in stores. Their new record, Love Drunk, that came out on September 4th features the hits Love Drunk and Heart Heartbreak. Both of these songs debuted on their summer tour.
Gym Class Heroes, another headliner on the tour, was a very energetic during their performance and got the crowd jumping up and down to all their songs such as Cupid Chokehold and Cookie Jar. Lead singer Travis McCoy was very passionate about his energy on stage and making sure the audience and fans had a great time.
The tour was a great investment in my opinion. You can check out the performances on mtvu.com and listen to the music from all the artists featured on the tour on their profile at myspace.com and purevolume.com. Also, listen to the new CD Love Drunk on iTunes.
