 Spirit WeekOctober 29, 2009
|
During the week of the 28th of September, St. Mary’s high school has their annual spirit week. Its five days long and leads up to the St. Mary’s homecoming game and dance. Each day there is something different for spirit week and at the end of the week there are pep rallies and other fun activities. For every day that a student participates, your homeroom class will get points and the more points you have, the more of a chance your class will win.
The first day of spirit week is Accessory Day. You pretty much gather as much jewelry as you can and wear it. You can wear necklaces, bracelets, and things like that as long as its visible and you have a lot of it.
The second day of Spirit Week, is referred to as Twin Day. You basically get a friend and dress up exactly how they do. For example, if you dress up as a pirate then your friend must wear the exact same thing as you. The best thing to do is to buy some sort of costume and let your friend buy the same one just so you know that you will have the same thing.
Each grade has a specific color for the third day of Spirit Week. The freshman classes have the color red, the sophomores have white, the juniors have pink, and the seniors have purple. Each of these grades should wear as much of their color as they possibly can to get the most points for their grade.
The next day of Spirit Week is theme day. Each grade had the opportunity to vote for what theme they wanted to have. For instance, freshman had the choice between “Freshman Fiesta” and “60’s style.” They won the freshman fiesta so they have to dress up as they were going to a fiesta. People will be wearing sombreros and jewelry and things like that.
Asking a freshman of what the think about the theme they voted for, I got a response of, “ I think it will be fun wearing all Spanish stuff. I like this idea a lot more than the 60’s style.”
After asking a junior of what he thinks of his class color I got an unusual response of,
“My class color sucks, but I’m still going to wear it or I’ll look stupid.”
