Alabama vs. Virginia Tech Football Game
The game was on September 5th 2009, the first game of the season for both of these teams. Alabama looks to start the season off on good note despite the conclusion of last season ranking number 5. Virginia Tech looks to justify the highest preseason ranking in school history with a big win. Virginia Techs starting running Derain Evens back is side lined with a torn Acl, which doesn’t help playing a Alabama defense who only allowed 5 rushing touchdowns last season. Alabama is also 10-1 against VT going into this game.
The game was close for the most part with Alabama getting three field goals in the first quarter and Virginia Techs kick returner Dyrell Roberts had a 98 yard kickoff return for a touchdown. At the end of the first it was 9-7 Alabama. In the second quarter VT comes out strong and scores two field goals, but Alabama scores a touchdown to make it 16-17 Virginia Tech at the end of the second. The third quarter ends 16-17 Virginia Tech just like it started. In the forth quarter Mark Ingram scores a touchdown off a 6 yard run (Alabama scores the 2 point conversion). About two minutes later they get a 20 yard field goal to make it 27-17 Alabama. Virginia Tech responds with a touchdown with 9:22 left in the game to make it 27-24 Alabama. Mark Ingram scores again off a 18 yard run to put the Crimson Tide up 34-24. Alabama then goes to win the game 34-24.
Mark Ingram said that “Everyone talks about our defense, but our offense can do it too”. .This is what VT’s coach Beamer said about his team “We’re just a little bit too young right now but we’re going to be a little bit older next week.”
Tennessee vs. Georgia
Both of these teams go into the game with a 3-3 record, one team will come out with a 4-3 record. Both of these teams are in the SEC and this game means a lot for both of there in conference records. Tennessee’s head coach didn’t defeat Florida as promised but he did come up with a huge win against the Georgia Bulldogs. The Vonlunteers safety Eric Berry said “He’s not going to let Georgia beat us”. He didn’t let Georgia beat them, Tennessee came out of the gate and crushed Georgia 45-19.
The first quarter was horrible with no score, but the second quarter showed had a lot of excitement. Tennessee scores three touchdowns all passes form Jonathan Crompton in the second quarter. Georgia scores a touchdown off a 100 yard kickoff return, field goal and gets a safety off a blocked punt. At the end of the second the score is 21-12 Tennessee. In the third quarter Tennessee scores two touchdowns and a field goal, and Georgia score a touchdown to make it 38-19 Tennessee at the end of the third. The only score in the forth quarter was a touchdown by Bryce Brown off a 1 yard run. Tennessee gets a big win over Georgia 45-19.
Georgia’s starting quarterback Joe Cox said “it’s so frustrating to come out and have so many things go wrong, it’s embarrassing we are not doing the things we need to do as players”
Texas vs. Oklahoma
The Red River Rivalry between Texas and Oklahoma is one of the biggest or is the biggest rivalry in the Big 12. Although this is a huge game for both teams, Texas trying to be a perfect 6 and 0 and Oklahoma trying to be 5 and 2 Colt McCoy and Same Bradford insist they are friends. This is what McCoy said about his friendship with Bradford, “We’ve got a lot in common. But we both understand this is a huge game.” Sam Bradford is coming back from a sprained shoulder in there season opener against Brigham Young. He his last game throwing 49 balls and taking 100 snaps but he still is not 100 percent.
The first half was a mess for both teams. The two teams combined for 8 turnovers, Oklahoma with 5 and Texas with 3. The Rivalry between these two teams was all about the defense through 4 quarters. Sam Bradford was sacked by Aaron Williams after 8 plays and getting his team a field goal. Aaron Williams sack re-injured Bradford’s shoulder. This injury gives Landry Jones the opportunity to step up for Oklahoma. Later in the 1st quarter Landry puts Oklahoma up 6-0. The scored stayed at 6-0 through out the second quarter until Colt McCoy drives Texas down the field for end of the quarter field goal. Texas’s first drive of the third quarter results in a field goal to make it 6-6. Oklahoma punts and Texas gets the ball back and scores a touchdown with a pass to Marquise Goodwin to make it 13-6. On Oklahoma’s next drive they score a touchdown off a 32 yard pass to Ryan Broyles. End of the third quarter its still 13-13. Texas starts the forth quarter off with a drive that ends in another field goal to make it 13-16. The teams didn’t score any more points in the forth quarter resulting in Texas winning 16-13.
This is what Cold McCoy said about the sloppy game, “You’ve got to be confident in yourself and trust your teammates”.
